I actually have not seen as many movies in 2009 as I usually do, but this year seems a little lackluster to me overall.
I liked Star Trek a lot, and thought that Defiance was pretty darned good.
What movies stood out for you so far this year?

Only one I've seen is Star Trek and I thought it was great. I'm really pissed off about Harry Potter - we intended to see it on a Tuesday when the cost of admission was $5.50 for matinées but I blew a tire that day and we figured we could see it the next week. But by the next week it was gone.
Other than that, we mostly see movies on DVD or on HBO and Max.

One movie I forgot to mention was Public Enemies, the Dillinger movie starring Johnny Depp. I thought it was pretty good, although it didn't quite live up to expectations. Depp, as usual, gave a good performance and the supporting cast was good as well. Michael Mann's direction was good, although not quite as stylized as his usual work.
Overall I think I'd grade Public Enemies out with a, "B."

I'm really looking forward to seeing Avatar come December. First Cameron movie since Titanic. Also, Pirate Radio looks like it may have the goods. I read a Wyndham book over the summer that takes place in that time frame and has some characters who are running a pirate radio station in the English Channel.

Halloween II is my favorite movie of the year with Friday the 13th not far behind. Some other favorites are My Bloody Valentine, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Terminator: Salvation, The Unborn, Laid to Rest, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, Watchmen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Taken, and Push.
