Depressing to see (what's left of) Lynyrd Skynyrd joining the "Hannity Freedom Tour" just to sell a few albums (God & Guns). Of course goes well with the target audience. This is a band that is a shadow of its formal self....who opened for Kid Rock a few years ago. Of course FOX is touting it as some kind of major coup, since other than Country acts, rock cred has been hard to get. Sure they have Ted Nugent, but "hunting Mexicans on the Border" just isn't funny to most people. I love the original Lynyrd Skynyrd, but this band may as well be CCR revisited....

This version of Skynyrd is still really good live - but it's getting really hard to call them Lynyrd Skynyrd. After Billy Powell died I have to wonder if they considered calling it a day. They're just one step up from the "Molly Hatchet" of the late 90's (NO original members left at all).

aaaah theyve been fallen for years, I think youve just got a problem with the politics of it all.
The once Proud Carter supporters "Lynyrd Skynyrd' have lost all of their Original Member but a few maybe 2 left ...
I moved from San Diego to the birthplace of Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1995 I figured if they had 1/2 the music scene Jacksonville had when 38 special, molly hatchet and LS were rocking it would be a great lesson in southern rock which I love...but like Skynrd Jax florida is like a beat up old crack whore looking for the next fix. As far as being a band, they are a great show to see...I would call them a Glorified Tribute band since real blood is in the band.
But to accuss the fall of LS to joining Hannity, is just your anti-republican side of you calling an already blackend kettle, black. They havent had a hit since the plane went down...OMG that sounded terrible.
I hope Hannity makes em some money...not many of them left at least they have a job. Both Parties are so buisy fghting each other we have watched a great nation fall like that great band that once played a song every californian screams for when they ask what do you wanna hear
& "Freebird" is always the answer

Look at YouTube and see "Gimme back my Bullets" at Winterland, I ain't the one, I got the same old blues, On the Hunt, Whiskey rock n Roller, working for the MCA etc. Like you say..just a tribute band now. Opening for Kid Rock and joining the Hannity tour are just signs of the decline of the great bands on the 70's. I could say the same thing about the Rolling Stones..... and no "Free Bird" for me... one of the anthems of the day I have heard just a few too many times.

Quite a bit of Difference between Rolling Stones today Selling out areans still, at $300 floor tix ...they Open for NO ONE.
jucts opposed to:
2 for 1 Skynyrd tix when you by $25 or more at WalMart: or Lynyrd Skynyrd or Free at "INPUT" County Fair
I cant name one Stones Song, or another band who has a single song Yelled for at a Concert like with another band like : " Free Bird "
That song is still relevant as hell, loved it in the end to Zombies Slasher Movie "Devils Rejects" even more relevant in Forest Gump & Dozens of other songs ...and in Guitar Hero the Game Ive seen Metallica play it..

Because of Jagger, the Stones aura somehow lives. But if you saw them at their peak, to see them play now is like going to a wax museum.

I was never that big of a fan and have grown disgusted with hearing Free Bird thousands of times. Regardless, it was just a GREAT performance. For one thing it was the last SoCal tour they did before Gary Rossington passed away and I just don't know if that song could be the same without him in the band.

Actually, Rossington is alive and well and the only original member left in the band.

Lynyrd Skynyrd returns with God & Guns, due out September 29 on Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. Recorded in Nashville in 2008-2009, the project was interrupted—but, tellingly, not ended—by the deaths of founding member/keyboardist Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans earlier this year.
Driven by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, Lynyrd Skynyrd have recorded an album (“under duress, as usual,” according to Van Zant) that very much lives up to the legacy begun some 35 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida, and halted for a decade by the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, including Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. Since then, the band tragically lost Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Hughie Thomasson, yet they rock on. Artimous Pyle, the Original Drummer who saved the rest of the band by traversing the swamp they crashed into to get help...is also alive and well but was kicked out years ago, due to rumors his ex wife spread about sexual child endangerment.
