So yesterday I went to Knotts Berry Farm in Southern California (I hadn't been there in about 11 or 12 years), and I was pleasantly surprised at some of the changes.
The best change was the addition of the roller coaster, Silver Bullet, which is a suspended coaster not unlike Magic Mountain's Batman ride. This one, however, is taller, longer, and faster. It may not be quite as smooth as the Batman ride (which itself is a fantastic coaster), but it more than makes up for that with the additional speed and length of the ride.
I ended up riding the thing 10 times before the day was over, and I've got to say that it was one hell of a roller coaster - a lot of fun!
Another recent addition was the Sierra Sidewinder, which is a great new concept in roller coasters - a spinning seating section! This one isn't as long as it could be, and it doesn't go quite as fast as I'd like, but it's still a lot of fun thanks to the novelty of spinning on some of the turns and often going backwards through the track! (In fact, if you start the ride facing backwards you end up going backwards through about 2/3 of the ride.)
The final newer ride at Knotts that I wanted to discuss was the Xcelerator. This one is a RUSH. It shoots you forward, hydraulically launched, accelerating from 0 to 82 mph in 2.3 second before shooting you nearly straight up to a height of 205 feet before going nearly straight down! This ride isn't particularly long, but it is a lot of fun.
Knotts definitely upgraded their thrill rides over the last decade. They may have limited space in the park, but they've done a good job of maxmizing it.
